Unfortunately, its cool, but not practical.THE NAME: THE CUBEIt isn't a cube. Well, the packaging is. I guess that's marketing for you. But a cube would not be handy shape for a presentation device or a mouse. So in this review I'll call it The Device. I'd make a terrible marketer.WHAT YOU GETInside the packaging is The Device itself, which is just over 1x2x5/8" in size, a USB type A male to USB micro-B male charging cable, a very small USB type A dongle, and a carrying case for the Device itself. USB type A male is the standard USB plug that fits most laptops and desktops.The Device is charged by plugging it into your computer via the charging cable. In use, it functions wirelessly when you plug the dongle into your computer and switch on the charged Device, after drivers are installed.THE DEVICE AS A MOUSEIt was not intuitive to me, probably because I expected it to be something other than a basic mouse. I had recently seen a video for an incredible-looking Device called The Leap (leapmotion splat com) and tried waving it at the screen, and obviously nothing happened. It also did not come with any instructions, and I'm a bit embarrassed to say that to figure out the basic use (not the connections, that was easy) I looked online. The business about one button serving as both left and right button by turning the mouse around was not obvious to me.It works as an optical mouse, assuming the optical sensor is facing down against an appropriate surface (i.e. not glass or other reflective surface). When you have the on-off switch on the side facing you, it moves the cursor in the expected way. You can't quite see it, but there is a button that serves as the left button. There is no right button, but if you turn the mouse 180 degrees (switch surface away from you), the button works as a right button. I just learned that if you bend your finger and click at the bottom of the mouse, it will work as a right button without turning the mouse. Stroking the top surface serves as a scrolling wheel.I guess this is ok as an emergency mouse, or as a novelty. I use the right button a lot, and having to turn the mouse around to access the right button is unacceptable for normal use. The mouse itself is unacceptably small and unergonomic. Cute, yes, I'll give it that.THE DEVICE AS A PRESENTATION DEVICEMy job includes customer presentations, and I have given several hundred of them in the past 10 years. LogiTech makes the best presentation devices I have ever used. My favorite is Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter (Black).This small device could never replace the Cordless Presenter. It has only a button to advance slides; to go back, you have to turn The Device around in your hand and use the same button, which is really awkward. It is not as easy to turn on and off. It is missing several other minor but useful features like a screen blanker button, a timer, a built-in laser pointer. While The Device is smaller, smaller is not always better: it is far more likely to get lost in my bag when I need it in a hurry, and does not fit comfortably in my hand. The Cordless Presenter is the perfect size, and I can't think of any way to improve it.BUILT TO LAST?The marketing from Logitech says this: "The Logitech Cube is built by the world leader in mice and backed by a three-year limited hardware warranty." Like nearly all electronics, The Device is made in China. Unlike most Logitech devices, I doubt this was designed by the same team that designs their other products, which are often the best in the industry. I suspect it is something someone found being sold in China, and decided to market it as Logitech, but I'm guessing.Example: the Cordless Presenter has storage for its network dongle built into the body of the unit itself - which is why I have never lost it in the years I have owned it. The Cube provides no storage for the tiny dongle that comes with it, nor for the recharging cable, and they are sure to be lost. Even if The Device is sturdy - hard to say - losing an essential piece like the dongle renders The Device useless, and I do not call that built to last by any stretch. If it was designed by Logitech, why would they not learn from their own products, where they solved this problem before?BOTTOM LINEThe Device isn't useful or practical for me either as a presentation device or as a mouse. It does work as it says, it does not cause damage, but it is not ergonomic or convenient, so I give it two stars, which on Amazon means "I don't like it."It might be different for you. It IS cute. It IS novel. It might attract attention or start conversations if that's your thing. Very cool, but totally impractical

NOTE: I purchased the Logitech Cube Mouse directly from Logitech (and paid for shipping) because I also purchased a keyboard that was not available on Amazon at the time (and express shipping was a flat fee).The out of box experience was very impressive - from opening the outer box to the package itself. I wasn't prepared for how SMALL the Cube is. It basically feels like using a box of Tic-Tacs as a mouse. Design was elegant, and the wireless receiver worked instantly with no configuration on my new Mac mini. But within a few minutes, I knew there was a problem.The Cube is so small that my hand started feeling cramped almost immediately. I can't imagine using that for any more than a few minutes at a time. Also, the scrolling function was unreliable and frustrating. I gave up after less than a day of use and downgraded to a regular Bluetooth mouse (from Microsoft, no less).I am returning the Cube disappointed because I had high hopes.

I love tech-y stuff, so I was psyched to get to try the Logitech Cube Mouse. Disclaimer: I already have a Logitech keyboard and regular Logitech mouse, so I'm familiar with the company.This little cube mouse? Does everything that it says it will do. It's extremely cute, works swiftly, and is pretty easy to figure out.HOWEVERIt's tiny. And I mean tiny. I'm 5' nothing and have small hands and it gave MY hand a cramp to use it for too long. I do a lot of photo editing and there is no way I could use this to edit. My children, however, love using it, although I keep wondering how long it will be before they lose it - yes, it's that small!The verdict? Very cool and would likely be ideal for a business person who is in a lot of meetings, but impractical for the average user.

Great & Original
Works very well, and it's very comfortable and stylish. The driver installs instantly when you plug in the USB, and the dpi switch is a nice bonus. It's a great deal!
